The Companion: A Guide to Life With God
-
My role focused on designing the user interface and experience framework that would guide how users interact with the site. The goal was to create an experience that transcended a typical website—something immersive, calm, and reflective, where visitors could feel fully present as they explored the content.
Crafting a Visual Atmosphere in a Digital Space
The visual direction for The Companion draws heavily from nature and elemental imagery, inspired by the wilderness landscapes associated with Jesus’s time in solitude and reflection. Rather than illustrating literal ideas, the photography emphasizes scale, atmosphere, and stillness—creating a sense of wonder and peace.
To maintain consistency, imagery falls into five core themes: Oasis, Macro, Stone, Water, and Sky. Each represents a different emotional space within the experience, while maintaining a tone that feels clean, expansive, and uncluttered.
For the interface itself, the goal was to ensure the digital experience felt as thoughtful and intentional as the visual identity. I designed the UI layouts and interaction patterns to feel intuitive and gentle, allowing users to move through the site naturally without distraction.
Content reveals gradually as users scroll, with subtle fade animations and hover interactions that add movement without overwhelming the experience. Accordion modules help organize longer passages of text, keeping the interface clean while allowing deeper exploration when desired.
The result is a user journey designed to feel calm, welcoming, and immersive—supporting the reflective nature of the platform itself.
